Blocktown — End-User License Agreement
Version 1.0 — applies to Blocktown 0.1.0 and later until replaced.
This End-User License Agreement ("Agreement") is between you (the person or organisation that installs or
uses the software, "you") and the author of Blocktown ("the Licensor"). It covers the compiled plugin
Blocktown-<version>.jar and its documentation as distributed through the official channels (the product page
https://coolapps.fyi/plugins/blocktown and the download pages it links to), together "the Software". By
installing or using the Software you accept this Agreement. If you do not accept it, do not install or use the
Software.
The source code is not covered by this Agreement: it is not licensed to you (see LICENSE).
1. License grant #
1.1. Free tier. The Licensor grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, royalty-free license to install and use the Software in its Free tier on any number of Minecraft servers that you operate. The Free tier builds squares from 16 to 64 blocks a side, up to three builds a day per server.
1.2. Pro tier. A paid Pro tier is planned and is not offered yet. When it is, a new version of this Agreement will describe it; until then nothing in the Software or in this Agreement is sold.
2. Restrictions #
You may not, and may not allow anyone else to:
- redistribute, sell, rent, lease, sublicense or publish the Software or any modified copy of it, in whole or in part, through any channel other than linking to the official download pages;
- modify, patch, bypass or disable the limits of the Free tier, or use the Software in a way that gets around them;
- remove or alter copyright notices, the EULA, the map data credit, or the Software's identification of its author;
- use the Software to collect, store or process personal data in breach of the law that applies to you (see section 6).
Nothing in this section restricts rights that applicable law grants you and that cannot be waived by contract.
3. Map data #
3.1. The Software builds from OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright). The Licensor does not own that data and grants you no rights to it: your use of it, and of the builds made from it, is governed by the Open Database License. In particular, when you show or share a build publicly (on a public server, in a video, a picture or a download), credit it with "Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors" where people can see it.
3.2. For each build the Software asks a map server (an Overpass API server) for the data of that place: the
servers listed in map-data.servers of config.yml, by default public servers run by third parties. Those
servers are not the Licensor's, and the Licensor does not control or guarantee them: they may be slow, refuse a
request or stop working, and their own usage policies apply to the requests your server makes. You are
responsible for choosing servers whose policies allow your use.
3.3. OpenStreetMap is made by volunteers. The data may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and a build shows only what the data says.
4. Your world #
The Software changes your world: a build replaces every block inside its square and border, from three blocks
below the street level you choose up to the highest block above it. Before a build, the Software keeps a copy of
what it will replace, and /blocktown undo puts the last build of each world back. The blocks are kept in a file
until that undo or the next build in the same world; the contents of chests, signs and other block entities are
kept in memory only, so an undo after a server restart puts back the blocks but not those contents. Keep backups
of any world you care about before you build in it.
5. Updates and support #
The Software does not check for updates and never downloads or installs anything by itself: updating means replacing the jar yourself. The Licensor is not obliged to publish updates, new features or fixes, nor to keep any feature unchanged. Support is offered on a best-effort basis by e-mail to [email protected].
6. Your data #
The Software keeps only its configuration and small state files (the number of builds made today, the undo
copies, and a random identifier of the installation) in the plugins/Blocktown folder on your server. The
Licensor does not receive them. You are the controller of the data processed by the Software on your server and
are responsible for informing your players and for meeting the legal obligations that apply to you.
Map requests. Each build sends the map server described in section 3.2 the coordinates of the corners of a square a little bigger than the build, and the name and version of the Software; like any web request, it reaches that server from your server's IP address. It never contains anything about your players.
Usage statistics. Unless you turn it off, the Software sends the Licensor a small anonymous usage report about a
minute after the server starts and then once an hour (to https://coolapps.fyi/api/telemetry): a random
identifier created for the report, the name and version of the Software, the server software, the versions of
Minecraft and Java, the operating system, the server port, the number of players online, the player limit, the
number of different players who joined in the last 24 hours, the language, the license tier and provider, and the
uptime. It never contains player names, UUIDs or IP addresses, or the places you build. The Licensor receives
your server's IP address and country with each report and uses the reports only to know how many servers run the
Software and on which versions, to support it and plan its development, as described in the privacy policy at
https://coolapps.fyi/privacy/. You can see the last report with /blocktown telemetry and turn the reports off
at any time with telemetry.enabled: false in config.yml.
7. Third-party software #
The compiled plugin bundles no third-party libraries. The map data credit is in NOTICE.txt in the jar.
8. Disclaimer of warranty #
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. A build is made from map data that may be wrong or missing, and it replaces blocks in your world: whether, where and when to build remains your decision.
9. Limitation of liability #
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE LICENSOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, WORLDS, BUILDS, PROFITS, PLAYERS OR REVENUE, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THIS AGREEMENT. THE LICENSOR'S TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT THAT GAVE RISE TO THE CLAIM.
10. Termination #
This Agreement ends automatically if you breach it. When it ends you must stop using the Software and delete every copy. Sections 2, 3, 6, 8, 9 and 11 survive termination.
11. General #
11.1. This Agreement is the entire agreement between you and the Licensor about the Software and replaces any earlier statement about it.
11.2. If a provision of this Agreement is held unenforceable, it is limited to the minimum extent necessary and the rest of the Agreement stays in force.
11.3. The Licensor may publish a new version of this Agreement with a new release of the Software; the version shipped with the release you install applies to that release.
11.4. Governing law and venue: this Agreement is governed by the laws of the Argentine Republic. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with it is subject to the ordinary courts of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (Capital Federal), Argentina, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules that apply to you.
