What it is #
Hopwise is a learning game for kids from 6 to 12. It teaches first and asks after, and it follows school: every subject is a path of topics in the order a school teaches them, grade by grade from 1st to 7th. In Math, counting on comes before adding, and adding before times tables.
Each topic starts with a short lesson of a few cards, each with a picture and a worked example. Then come three practice questions: a wrong answer is crossed out and the child tries again, with the lesson's tip on screen. After that come three rounds of questions on that topic. Pass them, and the next topic opens.
In each round, a little buddy waits on a row of stepping stones across a pond, and every answer is a hop to the next stone. A wrong answer never stops the round. The right answer lights up with a short fact, and the round goes on.
Subjects and grades #
Every topic is one that its school grade teaches: for Math, Spanish, Geography and History, the topics come from Argentina's national guidelines (NAP) and the Buenos Aires City curriculum; for English, from the US Common Core.
- Math: 73 topics, from the numbers after and before in 1st grade to powers, circles and the median in 7th.
- Language: in English (25 topics) or in Spanish (21 topics), each with its own: letters and sounds, sentences, spelling, word classes, verb tenses, punctuation and more.
- Geography: 28 topics, from the country and the city in 1st grade to Argentina's provinces and environments, America, and the world map in 7th.
- History: 25 topics of world history and of the history of Argentina: life long ago, ancient peoples and castles; the first peoples, the colony, the May Revolution and independence; building the nation and the great immigration; and in 7th grade prehistory, Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages and the 20th century.
Pick an age before you play: Easy (ages 6 and 7: 1st and 2nd grade), Medium (8 and 9: 3rd and 4th), Hard (10 and 11: 5th and 6th), Expert (12: 7th grade) or Einstein (the hardest of every grade). The age picks where each path starts and where it ends: the topics of earlier grades stay open to review, and those of later grades open when an older age is picked.
The questions climb with the child: a round with every answer right brings some harder questions of the same topics, and a second one more (in Math, more answers typed on the keypad). It never opens another grade. Picking the age again starts its questions over at their own level.

- It plays with the phone upright or on its side.
- Right answers get a cheer. A wrong one gets a kind word and the right answer, so every question teaches something.
- Every round has three stars: pass it, get every answer right, and pass it on the first try.
- After a round, Continue goes on: to the next round when it is passed, or to the same round with new questions when it is not. A round not passed offers the lesson again too.
- Stars, rounds, daily rounds and Endless open new looks for the buddy, its hops and the scenery: 300 in all, every one earned by playing, never bought.
Once a topic is learned #
- Review: a round of questions from every topic learned so far, in all subjects.
- Daily round: ten questions a day from what has been learned. A new one arrives at midnight UTC.
- Endless: questions from what has been learned that keep getting harder until three wrong answers.
The game plays in English or in Spanish: it starts in the site's language, and the EN / ES switch at the top of the menu changes it for the whole site.
Made for kids #
Hopwise is free and needs no download or account. It shows no ads and sells nothing: there is no store and there are no coins, and everything in it opens by playing.
