What it is #
Snakey is a snake game on a square board. Your snake moves on its own; you choose where it turns. Eat the food to grow, pick up the coins along the way, and stay off the walls and off your own tail. One crash ends the try, so each one is short, and one tap or Space starts again.
Levels are numbered and never run out. A level's number sets how fast the snake moves and what shares the board with you. Its layout is drawn anew every time you play, turned another way and in other colours, so a second try never looks or plays the same. As you get further, rocks, spikes, portals, sliding bars, turning crosses, beetles that pace a line and wasps that come for your head join in, and later rows of spikes that rise one after another. Each one is introduced with a short line the first time you meet it.
How to play #
| Phone or tablet | Computer | |
|---|---|---|
| Steer | Swipe the way you want to go, or tap the left or right half of the screen to turn the snake to its left or right | Arrow keys (or W, A, S, D) |
| Start and try again | Tap | Space |
| Menus | Tap the buttons | Left and right arrows change the level, Space or Enter plays, Escape pauses and closes panels |
- Every swipe leaves a short fading line under your finger, and every tap a ring, so you can see the game caught your move.
- Eat the food to finish a level: the bar over the board shows how far you are. Each bite makes the snake one cell longer.
- Running into a wall, a hazard, an enemy, the edge or your own tail ends the try, even on the first level. A shield absorbs one crash.
- The coins show a way to the next food, and the counter at the top shows how many you have picked up of those laid so far. The coins you collect are kept even when you crash. Spend them in the store on shields, upgrades and new looks for your snake, its food and the background. Each star you earn on a finished level pays 10% more of that level's coins.
- Your profile keeps your stats: time played, levels finished, food eaten, cells travelled, coins picked up, earned and spent, and more.
- The game plays in English and in Spanish, in the language you picked on this site. Tap EN or ES at the top of the menu to change it, here and on the site.
- Light by day, dark by night: with the theme on auto (the foot of the menu), the game follows the sun where you are, going by your time zone, and fades to its night colours at dusk, even in the middle of a play. Set the theme to light or dark to keep one.
Modes #
- Levels: numbered levels that get harder as you go, in worlds of ten, each world with its own colours and music. Every level has three stars: finish it, collect every coin, and finish it on the first try.
- Daily level: one level a day, the same for every player. A new one arrives at midnight UTC.
- Endless: one board that keeps getting faster and busier until you crash. Your score is how long your snake grew.
The leaderboard ranks players with a free account: the furthest level and stars, and the longest snake in Endless. Its top 10 is in the game and on this page.
