What it is #

Mindlap is a trivia game in short laps. Each lap is six or eight questions, and every right answer moves your racer along the track at the top of the screen, against three rivals answering the same lap. One tap is your answer: the right one lights up at once, with a short fact about it.

Pick a difficulty before you play: Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert or Einstein. Each plays mostly questions of its own level and some of the next one, and the harder ones pay a little more for each right answer. New players start on Easy, and the game climbs with you: a lap with every answer right brings more questions of the next level, and two take you up to it. In one session no question comes back.

Laps are numbered and never run out. A lap's number sets how long you have for each question, from 20 seconds on the first laps down to 9, and how often questions of the next level come up. As you get further, new kinds of question join in, each introduced with a short line the first time you meet it: which came first, true or false, guess the number, wildcards, quick bursts of three, and putting three events in order.

  • Each wrong answer, or a question left unanswered, costs a heart, and the lap is over when none are left: three hearts, four on the first laps. A wildcard is hard and pays triple, and missing one costs no heart.
  • When a lap ends, won or lost, it shows how many you got right out of its questions, like 5/8. In Endless it counts the questions you answered, and in a room your own.
  • The answers come in a new order every time a question appears, and the bottom of the card names the question's category.
  • A number counts as right when it is close enough: a year within five, any other number within 15%. An exact guess earns a crown.
  • Your profile keeps your stats: your right and wrong answers, in all and by category, your best category and your rank among the players by right answers; and all your totals: time played, laps finished, exact numbers, wildcards won, coins earned and spent, and more.
  • Coins pay for every right answer, more for a quick one and for answers in a row, and you keep them even when a lap goes wrong. Spend them in the store on shields that forgive a wrong answer, Fifty-fifty and Freeze to use during a question, upgrades, new packs and new looks for your racer, its trail and the track.

Topics and packs #

Pick a topic before you play, or play Everything. There are fifteen categories, among them TV series, film, music, sports, video games, books, the Bible, history, geography, Argentina, science, arts, math and approximation, and each goes from a general pack down to specific ones along two branches: from TV series to TV comedies, 90s sitcoms and Friends, or to TV dramas, crime dramas and Breaking Bad. Music has a third branch, from Pop to Pop since 2000 and Taylor Swift. The Bible questions follow the 66-book Protestant canon, in the words of the New Living Translation. Every general pack is open from the start; playing a category opens its next pack every 50 answers, and the store opens them with coins.

Filters narrow the questions to an era (from before 1800 to the 21st century), a region or a country. When a filter leaves too few questions, it widens by itself and the game tells you so. A question never comes back while you play, until the pack and the packs above it have run out.

Modes #

  • Laps: numbered laps that get harder as you go, in worlds of ten, each world with its own colours and music, and every play in another shade of them. Every lap has three stars: finish it, get every answer right, and finish it on the first try.
  • Daily lap: ten Easy questions from every category, the same for every player. A new one arrives at midnight UTC.
  • Endless: questions that keep getting harder until your hearts run out, from Easy up to Einstein. Your score is how many you got right, and that is what the leaderboard compares.
  • Play with friends: host a room and share its code, its link or its QR code. A friend next to you scans the QR with a phone camera and joins. While the host gets the room ready, or decides whether to play again, the others see who is in and the room's settings, and the game starts for them by itself.

The game plays in English or in Spanish, the language you use this site in. The EN / ES switch at the top of the menu changes it for the site and every game.

The leaderboard ranks players with a free account: the furthest lap and stars, the most right answers, and the most right answers in Endless. Its top 10 is in the game and on this page.

Free, with or without an account #
