Cart Jam

Push every cart into its spot, and don't let one get stuck.

A cart-pushing puzzle in a supermarket, with levels that never end. Walk the aisles with a swipe, a tap or the arrow keys, push each shopping cart into its spot before your steps run out, and keep carts out of corners they can't leave. Every store is new, and the game has solved it before you play.

What it is #

Cart Jam is a puzzle about pushing shopping carts around a small supermarket. You are the stock clerk: you walk the aisles one step at a time, and walking into a cart pushes it one cell if the cell behind it is free. You can push a cart but never pull it, so a cart that ends up in a corner, or against a shelf it can't get away from, is stuck for good. That ends the try, and one tap or Space starts again. Put every cart in a spot, the dashed squares on the floor (a cart in its spot gets a tick), and the room is done.

Levels are numbered and never run out. A level's number sets how many carts there are and how far they have to travel. The store is laid out anew every time you play, its shelves and aisles in other places, turned another way and in other colours, and the game's own solver has finished it before you see it, so every room can be won. Each room also gives you a set number of steps, counted at the top of the screen: run out and the try ends. Further on, cleaning robots, hatches in the floor, coloured carts, a checkout barrier, runaway carts and one-way arrows join in, a few at a time. Each one is introduced with a short line the first time you meet it.

  • A cleaning robot takes one step along its route every time you take one, and a dashed ring shows where it will be next. Stepping onto its cell, or swapping places with it, ends the try.
  • Push a cart into an open hatch and it fills it, so you can walk across. Coloured carts only count in spots of their own colour. The checkout barrier stays up while a cart sits on its scale. Runaway carts keep rolling until something stops them, and one-way arrows let you and the carts cross only the way they point.
  • The coins lie along a way through the room, and the counter at the top shows how many you have picked up of those laid. The coins you collect are kept even when a try ends. Spend them in the store on shields, upgrades and new looks for the clerk, its trail and the background. Each star you earn on a finished level pays 10% more of that level's coins, or 10% more steps in your next play if you pick that instead.
  • A shield takes back the push that got a cart stuck or the step that met a robot, or gives you more steps when they run out.
  • Your profile keeps your stats: time played, levels finished, steps taken, carts pushed, coins picked up, earned and spent, and more.
  • The game plays in English and in Spanish, in the language you picked on this site. Tap EN or ES at the top of the menu to change it, here and on the site.
  • With the theme on auto, the game follows the sun where you are: light by day, dark by night, changing during a play if the sun sets or rises.

Modes #

  • Levels: numbered levels that get harder as you go, in worlds of ten, each world a section of the store (pantry, produce, dairy, drinks, frozen) with its own colours and music. Every level has three stars: finish it, collect every coin, and finish it on the first try.
  • Daily level: one room a day, the same for every player. A new one arrives at midnight UTC.
  • Endless: rooms one after another, each a little harder than the last, until one beats you. Your score is how many rooms you cleared.

The leaderboard ranks players with a free account by the furthest level and stars, and by the most rooms cleared in Endless. Its top 10 is in the game and on this page.
